It would depend a lot on your environment, so hard to say. Generally, wouldnt be any better than pointing in the correct direction ot start with.

Ususally, the methods to improve performance are:
1. Increase IR current thru LED
2. USe 2 LEDs
3. Use LEDs with different angles
4. Copy the 'constant current circuit' from our blog
5. Use one of our MakeIR modules, which are designed to output (adjustable) high powered IR.
