I had the same issue of a compile error after manually installing the extEEPROM library. Deleting the library folder and re-installing using the IDE library manager seems to have fixed the compile error for me too!

I fixed the same problem by
1. By deleting the extEEPROM from my arduino ide library folder.
2. Then started the Library manager in the arduino ide Sketch>Include Library>Manage Librarys>in the search box extEEPRPM and installed it.
