We have posted a brief 4 minute “Using AnalysIR with Flirc – Video tutorial” showing how to use the Flirc USB device as an Infrared remote control signal source for AnalysIR. The tutorial covers the semi-automatic method we have used to support this feature, which should greatly enhance the Flirc Device and enable more troubleshooting with problematic signals or just simply as an additional powerful feature for the Flirc device. There is no need to update your Flirc installation or firmware, provided you have the latest revision installed. {See update notes below}
IMPORTANT: FLIRC has been updated recently including both the App and the device Firmware. This has slightly changed the output of the Device Log when IR debugging is enabled. The IR output is now presented as a series of ‘+’ and ‘-‘ numbers. So now all you need to do is to select the numbers similar to before (The old ‘:e:’ is no longer presented). Then copy the series of numbers as before (CTRL+C). Next use your mouse to select the AnalysIR main window and the signal should be automatically imported. Each signal is usually preceded by a large negative number and a blank line, which are not required and ignored if included.

After viewing the tutorial, you should be well positioned using Flirc with AnalysIR or to make a purchasing decision on AnalysIR.
Note: Make sure you have the “Enable IR Debugging” check box checked to get the IR signal timings displayed within the Flirc Device Log.
The method is very simple indeed. By Opening the ‘Device Log’ option in the file menu in Flirc, you can then record signals and copy the timing data. Once you then click on the main AnalysIR window, the signals will be automatically imported into AnalysIR and decoded.
A second method also exists, which is not covered in the video. You can simply paste the Flirc timing data into the import window, via Menu->File->Import IR Signal and then click on the Import into Channel 1 button.
Important: You must have the latest ‘dev’ version of AnalysIR installed to avail of the Flirc support.

Future enhancements
We have already implemented support in AnalysIR to allow tighter ‘real-time’ interface between AnalysIR & Flirc. This is subject to the code being implemented by Flirc directly within its GUI. However, at this point we have no timeline for support by the Flirc developement team. Similarly, it may never be supported beyond the current feature set.

Does it work on Linux or OSX?
AnalysIR is Windows only. However, many of our users run AnalysIR successfully on both Linux & Apple MAC OSX using VMs.
Should I stop using AnalysIR’s MakeIR modules for IR remote control?
Not at all. In our opinion our MakeIR modules are superior for use in all IR remote control projects & with our AnalysIR application. However, if you already have a Flirc or any of the many other supported devices, you can save some money by using them with AnalysIR. If you want the best solution we always recommend using our own MakeIR modules.
